Why Your Home Office Should Be Your Castle

Have you noticed your home office looking a little drab lately? Do you walk into your office without feeling a sense of inspiration like you used to? If so, then it’s time to redesign your home office. It should feel more like your castle than some random room you drag yourself into while clutching your cup of coffee for dear life.

You’ll work better in an aesthetically pleasing space

If you work from home, you spend a lot of time in your office, and that alone is reason enough to redesign it from the ground up. For instance, if you don’t have a window view and there’s a wall behind your computer screen, you’ll be more productive if that wall feels energizing. You can simply paint it a different color to lighten up your mood during your workday.

When the space around you looks good, you’ll get more done, be more effective, and be more likely to clean your office on a regular basis. This leads to the second point…

A clean office space increases productivity

Everyone talks about the importance of productivity, but did you know it’s closely linked with cleanliness? For instance, clutter is a major productivity killer, and having a messy desk is working against you. If you find yourself missing deadlines, procrastinating, or feeling disorganized, it could be caused by clutter.

This is precisely the reason you should redesign your office and start with a clean slate. If you don’t allow it to get messy, you’ll keep it clean on a daily basis, and your output won’t suffer.

Have you ever noticed that the more cluttered your space becomes, the less frequently you clean? For instance, if your entire office is clean, having an empty coffee cup on your desk seems like an unforgivable infraction. You’ll take it to the sink right away. On the contrary, if your entire office is a mess and you already have a few cups laying around, the cup on your desk can wait.

Starting from scratch with a home office redesign is one of the easiest ways to get a fresh start. Once you redecorate, you won’t feel right leaving a mess behind.

You deserve to have a nice office

Whether you’re crammed in a closet, a corner of the living room, or you have a dedicated room, you deserve to work in a nice space. Get a comfy leather couch, mount an infrared heater on the wall, and buy that office chair you’ve been eyeing for a while. You don’t need a logical reason to justify turning your office into a palace if that’s what floats your boat. Just the fact that you want to spruce things up is enough.

You might want to invite clients over

Do you meet with clients in your home? If you’re embarrassed to invite them into your home office, it’s definitely time to redesign your space. You should have the freedom to step aside from the rest of your household to discuss business matters in private if needed, or to go over confidential information and sign contracts.

A refreshed look will make your videos look better

If you film videos in your office, making your space look amazing and comfortable will make your audience feel comfortable, too. That’s one way to build rapport, and it’s quite powerful. Aesthetically pleasing video backgrounds play a major role in how people perceive video content on the internet, so it’s important for your backdrop to look good. Even if you use an artificial backdrop, people will still be able to see what’s on and around your desk area.

The same goes for attending video conferencing meetings. If you have to show up on Zoom, you don’t want people to see your messy office. Some companies even have rules that prohibit the use of virtual backgrounds or even backdrops. If that applies to your situation, and you’d be embarrassed if your boss saw your mess, revamping your office is a great solution.

It doesn’t cost much to redesign an office

Last, but not least, it won’t cost much to bring your office up a few notches in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Sometimes all it takes is moving your furniture around to give yourself a new view. There might be a way to arrange everything so it takes up less space or to make it look neater. Often, just getting a new desk does the trick. Whatever you want to do, start with what’s most important and work your way through your list. You might be pleasantly surprised at how much of an impact small changes can make.
